This is the ongoing saga of Tony Ross, a beautiful, curly-haired, hazel-eyed boy diagnosed with Autism at the age of 20 months. Tony had always been quite peculiar in his behaviors and repetitive actions, and seemed to be the most distant child I had ever known. So, despite his pediatrician’s insistance to wait until Tony was older to start testing him, help was sought. Totally glad this course of action was taken. Tony was diagnosed both by the state (DSN) and by an independent evaluator, and the State of South Carolina found him to test as “profoundly Autistic.” I immediately began researching this condition, and treatment paths were chosen (bio-medical/speech/ABA) which have improved his ability to communicate and learn immensely. Every new day brings a new word, or action…and a better understanding of what “Being Tony” is all about.
